Model railway enthusiasts from up and down the country flocked to the Midland Railway Butterley over the weekend for the Railex 2014 event.

Midland Railex 2014 Model Railway Exhibition is one of the country’s premier events for all those involved in the world of model railways.

The theme of this year’s exhibition was ‘Military
Manoeuvres’ to commemorate the anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.

The exhibition saw ten
model railway lay-outs in action at railway centre’s Butterley and Swanwick Junction sites.

They attacted a bumper crowd of 3,000 over two days.

Local groups were represented well at the exhibition with lay-outs put together by Alfreton Model Railway Society, which has been based at the Midland Railway since the 1980s when a group of Trent Barton bus company drivers formed the club.

Also in attendance was the
Butterley Garden Railway
Association, which is also based at Midland Railway.

Alan Calladine, Midland Railway Trust development officer, hailed the event as a great success, saying: “It was a tremendously successful weekend with 3,000 in attendance over two days.

“It’s the third year we’ve held this event and it’s been
established as a must-go event in the model railway
calendar. We’re already under way with preparations for next year’s Railex event.”
