Tax plan will cost 600 jobs

PROPOSALS to freeze council tax for the second year running will cost 600 jobs, Derbyshire County Council has said.

It will cut £25 million from its budget, if the proposals are approved at a meeting on Wednesday, February 1.

The forthcoming savings are on top of cuts of around £45 million and 800 job losses in the past two years. The council says it aims to protect frontline services, and jobs where possible, through more efficient ways of working, staff and service reorganisation and cutting administration.

Over the next year the council proposes to cut nearly £25 million from its budget, including £9.930 million from adult care, £5.986 million from children and younger adults, £4.670 million from environmental services, £1.327 million from corporate resources, £1.030 million from community and cultural services, £211,000 from corporate and £83,000 from chief executives.
