CAMPAIGNERS in Swanwick have reformed the village residents’ association to fight a rash of possible developments there.

Around 40 villagers attended Swanwick Hall School last Tuesday night to see the association resurrected for the first time in 15 years.

Residents there were sparked into action after Oxfordshire-based firm Memoria Ltd applied for permission to develop a 7.6-acre crematorium on protected land between Sleetmoor Lane and Old Swanwick Colliery Road.

Villagers had also secured more than 2,200 names on a petition to prevent land from being used as a potential building ground for 1,000 new houses under the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA), currently being drawn up by a number of authorities in the Derby area.

Residents voted Sleetmoor Lane resident Jon Arbon, 49, in as the chairman to lead the association.
