Students at a Ripley school have scooped an impressive haul of awards in a national mathematics competition.
Mill Hill pupils Phoebe Taylor and Roman White, both 13, won silver in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Junior Maths Challenge.
Bronze awards went to Leah Caddick, Max Blagg, Conlan Smith, also 13, and 12-year-olds Joe Meeks, Ben Payne, Charlie Batterbee, Chelsea Waldron and Emma Walters.
The competition involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour and is sat in school under normal exam conditions.
Laura Parrett, maths teacher at the Pease Hill school, said: “This is the first time we have entered this competition and we were very pleased that 22 of our students chose to enter. The challenge sees only 40 per cent of the national participants achieve an award.
“However, the students at Mill Hill performed outstandingly, with 46 per cent of our entrants receiving an award.
“It’s definitely something we would like to do again,” she added.
