“We are very pleased to be officially launching it for the community and we hope our customers like their new Post Office.
“We would like to thank Nigel Mills for taking time from his busy schedule to come here and we’d also like to thank the local community for their continued support and use of the branch.
“The open-plan counters make it easier for customers and staff to talk, and the extra opening hours make it more convenient as people now have more choice as when to visit.”
Mr Mills, who lives in Langley Mill, said: “The Post Office is vital to the community in Langley Mill and I’m sure the improved environment, and the longer opening hours, will be warmly welcomed by the community.”
The new store offers a full range of services, from cash withdrawals from a Post Office card account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, paying bills, pre-ordering travel money and top ups for mobile phones.
Richard Hall, Post Office senior stakeholder manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents and I am confident this new modern Post Office will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”
Under the current Parliament the Government has committed £2bn investment for the Post Office network to make sure there is no programme of Post Office closures and to update branches.
Nationwide the investment programme will see up to 8,000 branches modernised with additional investment in over 3,000 community and outreach branches.
The Post Office serves over 17 million customers a week and a third of small businesses.
Some 99.7 per cent of the total population live within three miles of a post office and over 97 per cent live within one mile of a branch.
For many rural communities, the post office is the only retail outlet.
