Splash of colour as kids create historical mural
People passing by Mundy Junior School in Heanor will now be treated to the sight of colourful murals depicting scenes from the town, painted by pupils at the school.
As part of Heanor Festival week, local artist Lesley Robinson and the Heanor Historical Society worked with children and teachers at Mundy to commission colourful murals that will now be displayed indefinitely outside the front of the school.
Teacher Laura Cooke said: "The chairman of Heanor Festival, David Rowley, approached us to take part and it linked in quite well with our art project, looking at the local environment.
"We looked at Heanor past and present.
"The History Society came and gave us a talk and showed us some old pictures of the town and we then did our own versions for the mural.
"You can see the old Morley site on there, the Empire Cinema and a big picture of Shipley Hall, as well as some of the more modern shops and buildings like Crest of the Wave."
