Speedwatch to be launched

Residents in Moorgreen are launching a community speedwatch scheme this weekend to try and make drivers slow down.

The scheme will be officially launched tomorrow, April 21, by Moorgreen Residents’ Association, police officers and Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry.

From this weekend, trained volunteers from the village will use handheld speed guns to clock drivers’ speeds, which they will then pass on to the police for further action.

Eastwood’s PCSO Peter Keeley helped set up the initiative. He said: “Speeding has been an ongoing problem in Moorgreen on both the B600 and the B6010.

“Lorries also regularly use the route as a cut-through which exacerbates the problem further.”
