Single mum stole clothes
A single mum was caught stealing clothing from an Alfreton shop.
Kalvina Davies was with a man and another woman seen acting suspiciously in the Jonathon James store on September 18.
“The male was attempting to block the view of staff and the defendant was crouched down, messing around with her bag.
“The bag was bulging as she left and they were stopped and the property was recovered,” Becky Mahon, prosecuting, told Chesterfield magistrates.Davies, 25, of Peterway, Somercotes, told police a friend put clothing into her bag and she knew it would not be paid for.
She admitted theft – her third offence of dishonesty in two years. She had a previous conviction for burglary. The Bench handed her a one-year probation supervision order, with 50 hours’ unpaid work and £85 costs.
“It was unsophisticated and unplanned. She was involved with drink and drugs in her past and she still uses amphetamine, though it’s once in a blue moon these days, not four or five times a week,” said Steve Brint.
“She wants to be drug-free so she can be a good mother,” he added.
