‘Scrap thieves’ caught in act

A PAIR of alleged scrap metal thieves were caught in the act on the former American Adventure theme park site, police have said.

Pc Simon Doar, of Larklands and Gallows safer neighbourhood team, and PCSO Robert Webb, of the Cotmanhay and Shipley view team, were out on patrol when they spotted two men attempting to steal a large amount of metal and cabling from near the old pump house.

The incident happened on Sunday at about 1.35pm.

The men were allegedly found inside the gates of the former theme park, off limits to the general public.

A 35-year-old and a 33-year-old, both from Heanor, were arrested, questioned and later released on bail pending further enquiries.
