Nrhn 200912 Amber Valley Borough Council officer Andrew Kavanagh models the new style all-in-one recycling bins being rolled out in Amber Valley at the end of the month.

The roll-out of the new
all-in-one recycling bins has begun in Amber Valley as
deliveries are being made to homes in the borough.

Bins have been dropped off at homes in the Horsley
Woodhouse area and more are now going out.

The grey wheelie bins
allow residents to place paper, card, cans, glass, and for the first time, plastics, in a single container.

Residents can place all their recycling in the same bin – with just glass placed in a separate try, which fits into the top of the new bin.

However, the existing system – which sees homes sort recyclables out into separate tubs and bags – will remain in place until November 19 when the news bins will be collected for the first time.

Residents who have received the new bins will also get an information leaflet which tells them what can be placed in the bins – and what cannot.

Items that can be put in the bins for recycling include plastic bottles and food containers, but not laminated paper or padded envelopes.

As part of the new service, residents will also be able to put out extra recycling as long as the glass is put out separately, using their old boxes, which they can kept if they want to.

The council’s new cabinet member for green and thriving places to live Cllr Martin Tomlinson has said the roll out of the bins has been much anticipated and addresses residents’ wishes to be able to place all recycling into one container – as well as there being no limit on the amount of extra recycling that can be put out on collection day.

Collection days will not change when the bin system gets under way - but there may be changes to the times bins are collected.

The new service will be delivered by the council’s existing waste contractor Veolia Environmental Services (UK) Ltd, as part of a seven-year contract.
