The Ripley and District branch of the Royal British Legion has appointed a youth president to encourage younger folk to get involved with the charity’s work.
Fourteen-year-old Mill Hill student and Army Cadet Jacob Elliott of the Ripley detachment is a youth member of the Ripley British Legion and its Riders branches.
He was presented with his chain of office at a recent meeting by the chairman of the branch Dean Fowler.
Dean said: “This is a landmark event and a testament to Jacob’s enthusiasm and achievements over the past year.
“Once again Ripley branch is leading the way, drawing upon the heritage of the legion while looking to the future.”
Ripley’s British Legion meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7.30pm, in the function room at the Sir Barnes Wallis pub on Maple Avenue, Ripley, and everyone is welcome.
