Residents can help to slow speeding traffic

Residents in the Kilburn, Holbrook, Denby and Milford areas who are concerned about speeding traffic are being invited to help out with a Community Speed Watch scheme.

Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team are looking for volunteers who would like to come out on patrol and check the speed of passing vehicles.

It is as the team target road safety issues around schools in the area following concerns .

The initiative involves volunteers and local officers patrolling together and using radar guns to check speeds, with volunteers taking note of the registration numbers of any vehicles breaking the limit.

A letter is then sent to the owner to advise them about their speed.

Kilburn PC Neil Hopwell said: β€œIt is a great opportunity for residents who are concerned about these issues to help the police do something positive for the community. Training on how to use the equipment will be provided and volunteers will never patrol alone or have to confront motorists.”
