Police sniffer dog used in Ripley drugs operation

A SNIIFER dog led to officers making two arrests during a Saturday night tour of duty in Ripley town centre.

Police canine Dillon was taken around licensed premises in Ripley on January 28 to target any revellers carrying or supplying drugs in the town.

Around 30 people were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act and two arrests were made during the course of the evening.

One man was arrested on suspicion of possessing suspected ecstasy and another man was arrested for an alleged public order offence.

PC James Pendrill, from Derbyshire police, said: “Members of the public, licensees and many of the people being searched, welcomed the operation and the efforts police are making to counteract drugs in Ripley’s night time economy. “We will continue to work closely with licensees and carry out similar operations in the future .”

Anyone with information can call Derbyshire police on the non emergency number 101.
