Play scheme for kids in Langley Mill is a hit
Summer holiday sessions for youngsters in Langley Mill have proved to be popular, it has been revealed.
More than 450 youngsters took part in weekly activities at Aldercar Community College during the six-week school holidays.
Youngsters between the ages of seven and 15 were offered the chance to take part in arts and crafts as well as sports such as football, cricket, rounders, dodgeball and volley ball.
They were first set up in 2009 by Aldercar and Langley Mill Parish Council and the Codnor, Waingroves and Langley Mill Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team with the help of Sporting Futures.
The aim of the sessions was to help reduce nuisance behaviour and prevent youngsters from becoming involved with anti-social behaviour or crime.
PCSO Jenny Lorimer of the Codnor, Waingroves and Langley Mill Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We are now in our fourth year of running these activities during each school holiday and every year we continue to see more and more young people coming along.
