Pharmacy giant Alliance Boots has bought out South Normanton-based UniDrug Distribution Group (UDG) in a £66 million deal.

UDG, a pre-wholesale and contract logistics joint venture in the UK, has been bought outright from UDG Healthcare.

Alliance Boots had previously owned 50 per cent of the company.

The joint venture is already part of the Alloga pan-European network and will shortly be rebranded ‘Alloga’.

Ornella Barra, Alliance’s chief executive, wholesale and brands, said: “Acquiring full ownership of this successful joint venture will enable us to provide our UK
pharmaceutical customers with a broader and more integrated range of flexible pre-wholesaling and contract logistics solutions, while further building on our investment in the Alloga
network across Europe.”

UDG is also hosting a jobs fair as it recruits new roles at its latest distribution centre.

The 224,000 sq ft centre is situated close to Junction 28 of the M1, on the Castlewood Industrial Estate, in South Normanton and is UDG’s fifth warehouse.

Although the company
employs around 700 people, it has a number of positions to fill, mainly shift work, including warehouse operatives, forklift truck drivers, and shift supervisors.

The jobs fair takes place between 9am and 1pm on
Saturday, September 6, at UDG’s
offices in Berristow Lane, South
Normanton. Those attending the event will be able to find out more about the vacancies, and they are
advised to take along a CV. They should also be prepared for a short interview.

Operations director Mark Langton said: “We have an enviable position as a market leader in our field. Our commitment to customer service and our ability to
deliver means that we continue to be a successful business.”
