Out-of-control driver crashed into cottage

A motorist who lost control of his car and crashed into a cottage in Pilsley has been fined and ordered to pay £185.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday, June 2, how Derek Pollard, 77, of Marston Avenue, Meden Vale, near Shirebrook, crashed into the cottage on Hardstoft Road, Pilsley, causing an estimated £5,000 of damage.

Prosecuting solicitor Angela Hadfield said: “Mr Pollard was driving a VW Caddie and came to a junction on Hardstoft Road and went across into the cottage’s conservatory and there was a large crack left in the rear of the property with the cost of damage estimated at £5,000. All parties are believed to have been insured.”
