Somercotes-based Slimming World raised £234,000 last year for national children’s charity the NSPCC.
The total was reached by the organisation’s slimmers, the consultants who run its groups and the 250 staff working at its head office, on Clover Nook Road, throughout 2012.
Slimming World has supported the NSPCC since 2003 and the new total means that during that time the company has raised more than £1.8 million for the charity via its fundraising arm SMILES (Slimmers Making It a Little Easier for Someone).
NSPCC account manager, Fiona Kearney, said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Slimming World for their committed support which has helped to raise a staggering £1.8 million for the NSPCC since 2003. Their extensive fundraising efforts created a great partnership which involved consultants and members raising money for the charity through various activities.
““The amount raised in 2012 alone was incredible and will make a huge difference to the NSPCC and its ongoing work with abused and vulnerable children across the UK, including in Derbyshire.”
For 2013 Slimming World members and consultants have voted to support Cancer Research UK. Founder Margaret Miles-Bramwell is a patron of the NSPCC.”
