A multi-million pound rebuild of Alfreton Gange Arts College is due by 2015 - after a funding bid to replace its aging buildings was approved.
Derbyshire County Council has signed a ‘memorandum of understanding’ with the Education Funding Agency (EFA) to build a new school.
It would replace the out-dated Alfreton Grange Arts College on the existing site.
Under the scheme the EFA will be responsible for constructing and financing the development, with work due to start in 2015.
The county council has set aside £1.35m to pay for furniture and equipment.
It will also be expected to pay for any work to connect water or electricity supplies or for any road works needed. The county council will also consult on the school’s plans to reduce the number of pupils it takes each year from 186 to 140.
