A conman who used a Codnor office to dupe elderly clients into buying products they did not want has been jailed for four months.

Carl Mould, 46, of Nottingham, ripped-off OAPs by selling them mobility aids they had no need for - or took their money for goods that were never delivered.

He admitted 26 fresh allegations relating to the mis-selling of mobility aids since February at a hearing at Nottingham County Court on Wednesday.

A court order barring him from using the aggressive sales methods was handed to him on January 25, but he persisted to breach Unfair Trading Regulations on 26 further occasions. He has been jailed after admitting breaching the order.

Paul Gretton, team leader for Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards, which led the investigation, said: “We are pleased that the judge concluded that the only way to stop Carl Mould ripping off old people was to send him to prison.

“Mr Mould has been given every opportunity to comply with the law. Even though it was made quite clear to him that he would end up back in court if he continued to ignore our advice, within weeks he was up to his old tricks again.”

Mould, who traded under the name Brittania Homecare Solutions moved his business to offices on Market Place in Codnor, in January 2012.

He had bought the company previously located there called – Optimum Care Ltd – another mobility aids firm, which has since been the subject of a separate large-scale Office of Fair Trading investigation for using ‘pressure sales’ tactics.

It is understood Mould purchased the company and its existing database of elderly customers, many of whom had already been the victims of Optimum Care Ltd’s methods.

One of his customers was Mary Cowen, 79, of Hall Green, Birmingham.

Mould sold her a foam mattress that was so high off the bed she needed a foot stool to get onto it. And when she called him back to get the item replaced, she realised he had supplied her with a fake number. She said: “I’m very pleased he’s been jailed - he deserves it he really does. He should have got longer for what he has done.”

Trading Standards would like to hear from any victims from the Ripley and Heanor area. If you were sold products by Brittania Homecare Solutions, get in touch with the authority on 01623 452005.
