Man punched ex-partner

An Alfreton dad punched his estranged partner in the head during a row outside a school playground, a court heard.

William Wagg and the victim, who have been in a two-year relationship, argued on September 22 about a photograph posted on Facebook.

Wagg, 29, became aggressive and threw her mobile phone and clothes onto the floor of their new flat. The victim told police there had been domestic violence in the past and she felt afraid, so she went to her mother’s home.

Chesterfield magistrates heard she was with her mother in the playground at a school on September 25, waiting to pick up her young sister. She was approached by the defendant who suggested they get back together. There was an argument and she was followed by the defendant onto Grange Street where he punched the side of her head.

Wagg, of Mansfield Road, Alfreton, denied hitting her after he was arrested, but he pleaded guilty to the assault when he appeared in court.

Sentence was adjourned until October 24 for Probation Service reports.
