Eight Derbyshire men,
including one from Pinxton, who preyed on young girls have been jailed.

The men received sentences ranging from four years to seven years after plying underage teenage girls with alcohol, drugs and gifts before paying them for sex.

Stefan Godfrey, 44, of George Street, Pinxton, was convicted by a jury of paying a 15-year-old girl on two occasions for sex knowing or believing she was underage.

He was jailed for six years.

Colin Simpson, 55, of Old School Lane, Cresswell, had previously pleaded guilty to three charges of paying for sexual services from a 15-year-old girl and was jailed for four years, following the trial at Derby.

The men, who did not know each other, along with six others from the Derby area, were all snared by officers through Operation Kern, which targeted those seeking the services of children for sex. They were banned from working with children for life and must sign the sex offenders’ register.

Detective superintendent Andy Stokes said: “I’m pleased with the sentences, not only because they reflect the hard work and dedication of the officers involved but more importantly, because the victims have seen justice done.

“These girls were young and vulnerable and were exploited by men who groomed them and bought them presents to keep them on side. They showed tremendous bravery in coming forward and speaking to police and by providing vital evidence to ensure these convictions.”

Officers identified 15 girls who were involved and between July and November 2010 14 men were arrested as part of the investigation.
