A man entered his estranged partner’s Ripley home to check if she had male company, a court has heard.

Daniel Marshall, 22, was on bail and told not to contact the woman at the time after being convicted of assaulting and harassing her.

He sent text messages on January 26 demanding that she called him and later she went to sleep. “She heard the door being kicked and the chain broke. He came upstairs into the bedroom, looking mad, and with his fists clenched.

“He was shouting: ‘Where is he? Where is he?’ and he took her mobile phone off her,” prosecutor Sherall Pickford told magistrates at Chesterfield.

Marshall, of Peel Street, South Normanton, appeared in court in custody and admitted damaging the door chain at Ripley.

He had already been convicted of assaulting the woman in Brook Lane, Ripley, and Hollywell Avenue, Codnor, and harassing her at Ripley.

Deputy District Judge Andrew Davison described his behaviour as “appalling” and remanded him in custody until February 12 when he will be sentenced for all offences.

“She has also been in contact with him. There are texts from her saying how much she loves him and inviting him around.

“The breach took place within that context. He went to the house and was annoyed by what he thought she was doing,” said John Wilford, for Marshall.

He added that Marshall had a number of health issues.
