Man dies in A38 collision

A motorcyclist has died following a collision on the A38 near Alfreton.

Police were called to the southbound carriageway at around 7.50pm last night following reports that a bike and a silver Vauxhall Astra had collided.

The rider, a man in his 40s, died at the scene.

Police closed the A38 southbound at Coates Park and northbound at the Watchorn island and turned vehicles around.

The road re-opened at around 1.30am today.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, or anyone who saw the vehicles involved prior to the crash, to call the collision investigation unit on 101, quoting incident 679 of July 20.
