As Ilkeston’s Victoria Park celebrates the start of another year with the prestigious Green Flag flying, Shipley Country Park is in the running to be named the nation’s favourite park.
The 700-acre park has been entered into The People’s Choice Award to find out which green space the UK loves the best.
The park was awarded a Green Flag award for a fifth time this summer for its well-managed, high-quality green space and its level of community involvement.
Cllr Simon Spencer, deputy leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: “It’s a pleasure to see how much people enjoy visiting Shipley County Park.
And who wouldn’t? It’s a beautiful area and it’s free to use with plenty to do from walking, cycling or horse-riding to bird-watching, angling, picnicking, kite flying, jogging, exploring one of three play areas or keeping fit.”
Attractions at the park, include a popular visitor centre and cafe, three ponds and reservoirs and 20 miles of footpaths and bridleways.
