We have had a bumper week of donations towards our Jam Jar appeal - with our reception inundated with more than30 jars busting with coins this week alone.

The total is now standing at an impressive £525, smashing our original target of £300.

The money has been raised entirely through jars of loose change readers have collected and handed into our office on Grosvenor Road, Ripley, and will go towards planting fitting trees in the area to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

The News has teamed up with Amber Valley Borough Council to see them placed in Ripley, Heanor and all being well, Alfreton too.

And the more money we raise, the better the quality of tree we can plant in the towns.

News editor Julie Crouch, said: “Everyone who has donated should give themselves a big pat on the back.

“We are well on the way to delivering a really special memento of the jubilee in three of our towns.”
