Hunt for stab murder witness in Somercotes

Police investigating the murder of a woman in Somercotes who was stabbed to death are appealing for a key witness to come forward.

Jade Riley Ward, of Burke Drive, Somercotes, was formally identified on Monday, September 24, after emergency services were called to a house on Burke Drive just before 4pm on Saturday, September 22 and found the 30-year-old woman dead.

A post mortem examination carried out on Sunday revealed she died from multiple stab wounds.

Detective Inspector Karen Pearson, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “I would like to thank the public for their assistance so far in coming forward and speaking to police.

“We would still like to speak to a potential witness who may have had contact with the victim on the day of the incident in relation to the purchase of a puppy.

“I would urge this person to come forward as they may hold information that is significant to the investigation. I want to reiterate that we only want to speak to this person as a potential witness. Please contact the investigation team on the police non-emergency number 101.“

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with her murder and is still being held by police.

Forensic examinations at the scene were continuing on Monday and Tuesday.

An incident room has been set up at Alfreton and anyone who has any information that may help the police investigation should ring 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Floral tributes left at the scene included cards which described the anguish of friends and family.

One note read: “Rest in peace little girl. Love from Laura.”

Another simply asked the question: “Why???”

“God bless Jade. All our love Millo, Kerry, Anne, Milly.”

One card, signed by Tina, read: “I can’t believe ever having to write this for you.

“We grew up together, shared holidays, laughs and sadness. I can’t get it into my head that I will never get to see you again. When we were all grown up I never got to say ‘goodbye’ to one of my oldest and very special friends.

“You will be very sadly missed by many people - one of which is me.

“RIP Jade. Love Tina.”
