Scouts in Kilburn have launched a fund to raise up to £70,000 to revamp their crumbling headquarters – and they need the public to back them.

The existing HQ on Highfield Road, Kilburn, is crumbling and outdated and in dire need of improvement.

The property, which is used by Scouts, Cubs and Beavers from the 1st Horsley and Kilburn group, does not have inside toilets or a standard working kitchen.

Plans would see the refurbishment of the kitchen, and an extension for inside toilets and a storage area for equipment.

Scout leader Richard Ward said the reonvations are much needed to get the property up to scratch.

He said: “Plans to give the building a serious facelift are long overdue.

“The children deserve somewhere decent with good facilities, but it’s a big job, which means big money.”

Estimates have left the Scouts needing to raise
between £60,000 and £70,000.

The group is now planning a string of fundraising events including quizes, barbecues, a jumble sale, and a sponsored walk.

The Scouts are also on the look out for grants from local businesses, with Specsavers in Belper already signed up to help fund the bid.

Richard said the Scouts were ready to get stuck into drumming up the cash.

He said: “The whole group are excited, and hopefully the refurb will see us welcoming more young people.”
