On July 1 2015, temperatures soared to 36.7C (98F).

The reading was recorded at Heathrow, according to the Met Office.

The M1 in Derbyshire was brought to a standstill as a lorry burst into flames, causing two southbound lanes between junctions 28 and 29, for South Normanton and Chesterfield to close.

However the outlook for the region tomorrow looks slightly different compared to last year, with the Met Office predicting a maximum of 18C.

A chief forecaster said: “Mostly dry at first then sunny spells through the day, with blustery showers developing and turning heavy and thundery at times in the north. Rather cool in a westerly breeze.”
