Honouring those who have served in the Armed Forces

Waiting for Video...

Hundreds of people flocked to a day-long event in Ripley at the weekend to honour the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces.

The Armed Forces Day event at Crich View Farm, which marked the end of week-long national
celebrations, was aimed at
raising awareness of the tireless work and dedicated
contributions made by those who serve and have served for the country.

There were plenty of things to do and see on the Saturday with an impressive array of events put on by the organisers,
the Ripley branch of the Royal British Legion.

Alfreton Traing Corp and Ripley
Army Cadets put on displays, while there was the rare
opportunity to see genuine
vehicles used in World War One, World War Two and present dayaction.

Event organiser Dean Fowler was absolutely delighted with the outcome of the big day saying: “It was an absolutely fantastic day from start to finish.

“We saw a steady flow of around 700 to 800
people come through the gates throughout the day which we were really pleased with.

“All of the events put on were
thoroughly enjoyed by the crowds, especially the flyover and the demonstration of our military vehicles.

“This is the third
annual Armed Forces Day event we’ve held so far and it’s by far been the most successful one to date.

“We’ve managed to raise £1,231 with all money going towards the Poppy Appeal. It’s a great amount to raise and everyone involved in the day was absolutely brilliant.

“I’d like to extend my thanks to Tim Lane, who

provided both the venue for
the event and the military equipment.

“Thank you to Draycott
Deli burger van for catering the event and Russ of Halehouse Pub Company for providing the outside bar.

“Everyone else who

helped man the various stalls and events throughout the day, none of this would of been possible, especially Callan Fowler, Aron Shelton, Judith Wright and Julie Fowler for all your help and support throughout.”
