A Cleaner, Greener Heanor day was held during Heanor’s community fair.
Local charity Salcare had a van on Heanor Marketplace to collect unwanted, working electrical items which they will recondition for the needy.
Manager of Salcare Sue Clarke said: “We had quite a selection of items handed over - everything from a lawn mower to a heater and a nice brand new iron.
“It was a successful day.”
Salcare launched the scheme last year with the help of a Derbyshire County Council grant.
All of the goods will be PAT tested, with some given directly to low-income families referred to Salcare through other agencies. Other items will go on sale in the shop on Ray Street.
Sue continued: “It’s very important for these families, but there’s also a green side to it too.
“Not only does it help people with the items they might not be able to afford but it stops a lot of electricals going into a landfill.”
To donate smaller electricals to Salcare drop them in at the Ray Street depot. For bigger items, collection can be arranged on 01773 764562.
