Amber Valley Borough Council’s planning board is set to decide on a bid for 32 homes at Lockton Avenue, Heanor, on Monday, February 17.

The application by Futures Homescape comprises 16 family houses, ten elderly persons bungalows and six apartments on the site of a previously demolished sheltered housing and bungalow development at Delves Court.

Borough council officers have recommended the plan for approval though Heanor and Loscoe Town Council says the balance of housing for elderly residents “does not reflect what was there before.”

In its objection to the build the authority adds: “The new proposal represents a net loss of such provision, in contrast to a recognised need of many who are now subject to the ‘bedroom tax’ and are looking to move if alternative accommodation can be found.”

Some residents have also objected to the scheme, first announced in 2010, and a petition containing 46 signatures has been handed to the borough council.
