Have your say on naming new £2.5m care unit

NHS representatives from Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust will be at Heanor May Day market on Monday, May 2, to ask people their views on the name of the soon-to-be built new health centre.

They will also be on hand to chat to people about the plans for the new health centre and to display the architect’s drawings.

Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for the redevelopment of health services on the site of the former Heanor Memorial Hospital, which was demolished as unfit for the delivery of modern healthcare after findings of asbestos initially forced its closure.

William Jones, spokesman for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We see the May Day market as an ideal opportunity to canvass the views of people living locally about what the new healthcare facilities should be called. It has to be a name which reflects the feelings of the people who will be using the new facilities on a daily basis.

“It may be that they want to remember the old hospital in the building’s title or it may be that they want a new name for a new building. We are going to be there to gather views and feedback. When the old hospital building was demolished we were careful to salvage artefacts of historical importance, such as the plaques.

“The hospital was a focal point of the local community for nearly 90 years, but sadly it had its day and we could no longer use it safely for patient care.”
