Have your say on footpath plans

Plans for improving paths and trails across the county have been drawn up by Derbyshire County Council – and now people are invited to have their say.

The county council looks after more than 3,000 miles of public rights of way across Derbyshire – including the Peak District National Park – along with many more miles of other paths, trails and multi-user greenways.

People are being invited to comment on the five year Rights of Way Improvement Plan to:

* Keep Derbyshire’s network of public rights of way open and available to use

* Keep public records about rights of way – called the Definitive Map and Statement - up-to-date and widely available to those who wish to view them

* Continue to fill missing links in the rights of way networks by providing paths and trails which are safe and easy to use

* Promote the network

* Encourage greater community involvement in managing local rights of way.

Councillor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We need to make sure these routes are fit for purpose now and in the future.”

To see the plan and comment from 6 August, visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk/RoWIP. Questionnaires will also be available from libraries, countryside visitor centres or by calling 01629 539656.

Closing date for comments is 29 October 2012.
