Ambulance bosses are urging residents to get involved in a major consultation on plans to close scores of stations, including Ripley and Alfreton.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) has launched talks on the controversial proposals which could see the closure of 16 stations across Derbyshire, also including Matlock Belper and Bakewell.

Bosses said so-called “super stations” would be built in Derby and Chesterfield and crews would be based at community ambulance posts.

Phil Milligan, EMAS chief executive, says the radical plans would help improve response times and provide a better service.

He said: “We’re really keen to hear everyone’s thoughts and ideas on these plans.”

To take part during the three-month consultation, log on to www.emas.nhs.uk, email beingthebest@emas.co.uk or call 0800 917 9911.

And residents will be able to comment on the proposals at a series of up-and-coming public meetings.

The consultation will run until Monday, December 17.
