Great year for charity

FOLLOWING another successful year, the Eastwood and Greasley Cancer Research UK group has handed over a cheque for £26,960.

Chairman Diane Gensler and treasurer Debbie Barnes said the successful fundraising had been down to the group’s ‘dedication and hard work’.

The committee raised money collecting at Marks and Spencer, Morrisons and Tesco, selling knitted chicks at Easter and hosting two concerts.

Since its inception in 1979, the local cancer research group has raised over £600,000.

But Ms Gensler said she had concerns for the future.

“Age is catching up on our magnificent committee team and recruiting new and younger members is our main priority,” she added.

“I want to appeal to people to come forward and help this wonderful cause.”
