Full-steam ahead for next Indietracks
Festival fans flooded into Ripley at the weekend to make the most of the sunshine at the second annual Indietracks event.
The indie-pop festival was held at the Midland Railway, Butterley, from Friday, July 25 to Sunday, July 27, bringing acts and spectators from as far afield as Scandanavia and parts of Europe.
It was the second year the festival had been held at the museum, and talks have already begun to organise next year's event and bring more people to the railway.
Almost 1,000 people attended this year's event over the three days to see more than 60 indiepop acts perform at venues around the museum including the platform, the Railwayman's church and on the trains.
Event organiser Stuart Mackay said: "It was a tremendous success, my team, the railway, the bands and the audience were all delighted with the way it went – many people saying it was the best festival they'd ever been to."
He said the highlight was the number of impromptu acoustic performances which sparked up among bands waiting to take part or relaxing after their set.
Midland Railway spokesman Alan Calladine said: "The weekend went extremely well.
"It was obviously something very different for us but the museum site lends itself to that sort of thing. It just proved we can do an event of this size. We're also talking to more bands about other events. It all brings something to the town."
A smaller one-day Indietracks event has been organised at the railway for December.
