Explosion in Heanor

The pavement was lifted up by an underground explosion in Heanor on Saturday night.

Fire crews were called to Derby Road at 9.15pm following reports of what was first assumed to be a gas explosion.

Derby Road was cordoned off while a full survey was carried out.

Gas was ruled out and 11KW underground electrical cables were found to be the cause. The electricity board isolated the power.

The cordon was lifted at 10.05pm.
