Early days of failed Britannia theme park

Britannia Park

Britannia Park

Britannia Park in Shipley opened in June, 1985, and went bankrupt just ten weeks later.

One of the major issues was that the many attractions at the park, which later became the American Adventure Theme Park that closed in 2007, were not actually finished.

The rainly weather that summer did not help either.

This picture was taken in February, 1985, and shows how much major building work was still going on just five months before opening.

You can see the old pit head in the background.
