Drunken man was restrained

A DRUNKEN Heanor man had to be restrained by shop staff after they had refused to sell him more alcohol, a court has heard.

Ian Haymes was declined service at a Co-op store in Bakewell Road, Matlock, because he was already intoxicated.

“He became abusive to the point where he was ejected, but he kept trying to re-enter the store,” prosecutor Lynn Manning told magistrates inChesterfield.

“He continued being abusive and he was restrained by staff until police arrived and he carried on in the same vein following arrest.”

Haymes, 51, of Breach Road, Heanor, admitted drunk and disorderly behaviour on April 28.

He had previous convictions for similar offences and was fined £88, with £85 costs.

His solicitor, Jon Barber, said he used to live in Matlock and he had stopped drinking since moving to Heanor.

“Unfortunately, he went back to his old stomping ground and had a drink and got himself into bother again.

“Occasionally he binge drinks.

“He apologises for his behaviour. He wouldn’t dream of using that kind of language when sober,” said Mr Barber, adding that Haymes received incapacity benefit.
