Domestic blazes

Fire crews from Ripley were called out twice over the weekend to tackle fires in domestic appliances.

On Saturday at 11.45am they were joined by Alfreton crews to deal with a washing machine fire at a house on Western Spot Close in Ripley.

The fire was out on arrival and an inspection was made to make sure the machine was safe.

At 12.25am on Sunday they joined Belper firefighters when an electrical fire strated in a fridge on Belper Road in Kilburn.

A smoke alarm alerted the family when black smoke began pouring from the fridge which was kept in a cupboard under the stairs.
