Dog walkers sought after alleged attempted murder

Detectives probing an alleged attempted murder in Alfreton are trying to trace two dog walkers who may be able to assist with their investigation.

A 68-year-old woman told police that a man allegedly approached her as she was walking in Grange Street at about 6pm on Friday, February 5, and demanded her handbag.

She said that when she refused to hand it over, the alleged offender punched her several times and took her bag.

Police said the woman suffered facial injuries, including several puncture wounds to her face and neck.

She was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment and has since been discharged.

Detective Sergeant Gareth Fuller, of Derbyshire police, said on Saturday morning: “Officers were in the Grange Street area last night distributing appeal leaflets to try and identify two dog walkers who were in the area at the time of the incident.

“These people may hold vital information which could help with our investigation.”

• Lee Greenall, 39, of Castle Drive, Somercotes, was charged with attempted murder, robbery and possessing an offensive weapon after the incident and appeared at Chesterfield magistrates’ court for a preliminary hearing earlier this month. He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, March 10.
