Dinner lady was over limit

A Swanwick dinner lady was over the drink drive limit when she crashed into a garden wall in a village.

A resident of Derby Road heard a large bang and saw a Ford Fiesta had crashed into her boundary wall.

Driver Claire Fletcher and a male passenger went into the address to discuss the damage and the householder noticed that Fletcher smelled of drink.

Police were called and she went on to give a reading of 57mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath, the limit being 35mcgs.

Mike Treharne, prosecuting, told Chesterfield magistrates that the passenger claimed he was the driver. He gave a reading approaching three times the limit and he was arrested.

But Fletcher, 35, refuted his claim, saying she had drunk four cans of lager at home and then drove to buy cigarettes.

Fletcher, of South Street, admitted drink-driving on May 26. She was fined £160, with £85 costs, and handed a one-year driving ban, to be cut to nine months if she passes a drink-driving rehabilitation course. District Judge Andrew Davison said her driving could have resulted in “far more serious consequences”.
