A young man from Loscoe has just qualified as an electronic warfare specialist in the Royal Navy after overcoming three years of delays.
Danny Allsopp’s application to join the forces was delayed by a knee injury from playing football and long waiting lists - but he battled on. He has now completed basic training aboard HMS Raleigh and HMS Collingwood, where he was promoted to class hand.
Danny, 23, of Loscoe-Denby Lane, attended Heanor Gate School and is due to join his first ship, HMS Sutherland, in May. The six-month deployment will see him operate the navigation systems that monitor for missiles and enemy ships.
Mum Susie said: “He did so well he was put forward for intelligence training - only two out of his class were put forward. I am very proud to call him my son and would love to see his story in our local paper for local people to also feel the same pride!”
