Cricket club’s £90K boost for building

Alfreton Cricket Club received a £90,000 boost from the county council’s Community Building fund.

The grant will provide an extended building including a community room, a meeting room open to all community groups, disabled access facilities and new changing rooms.

In the same round Swanwick Methodist Church received £19,100 to refit and extend the kitchen area, as the current facilities restrict the capacity and limit the community use of the building.

The council launched the £1m fund last summer offering voluntary and community organisations one-off capital grants of between £10,000 and £250,000 for building projects or permanent equipment such as play, sports or social facilities which residents will be able use for at least ten years.

The number of applications was so high, the county council has now approved a further £1m to be allocated to the programme for 2013/14.
