Crews rescue cow stuck in a brook

A large bovine got into a spot of bother when it got stuck in a ditch just outside of Alfreton on Wednesday.

Fire fighters were called to the scene on the A61 near Alfreton Brook at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.

A cow had stumbled down an embankment and landed in a brook. Although the heavy animal could stand, it was stranded.

Alfreton and Matlock fire crews worked for an hour-and-a-half to lift the bovine from the water using specialist animal lifting equipment.

The cow was rescued safely and returned to the farmer just before 6pm.
