Councillor’s skydive bid

A Conservative Amber Valley Borough Councillor is to leap from an aeroplane to raise money for Crohn’s disease and colitis sufferers.

Cllr Stuart Joynes, who is a member for the Ripley ward is due to complete the tandem skydive on August 26 in memory of his late mother-in-law Anne Montgomery.

Former web designer for the council Anne lost a battle with Crohn’s disease in 2002, aged 57.

Funds raised by Cllr Joynes are to go to the charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK, which provides support for sufferers of the illnesses and research into finding a cure.

He said: “My overall aims are to honour and remember Anne while raising as much money as possible, as well as making people more aware of the valuable work the charity does in supporting current sufferers and their families.

He continued: “If you remember Anne, are affected by these conditions in any way and want to support this great Charity – or you just like the idea of me jumping out of a plane at 10,000 plus feet – please donate a little something, it really would be appreciated.”

Assistant chief executive of the council John Grady, has also urged people to sponsor Cllr Joynes in memory of Anne.

He said “Anne was a valued and popular member of staff and people will be pleased to see that memories of her are encouraging others to raise funds for such a good cause.”
