Coppice Primary School celebrated the opening of a brand new outdoor classroom last week with a visit from Heather Longdon, Mayor of Heanor & Loscoe.
The Heanor school were given a £1900 grant from the Lodge House Surface Mining Community Fund to build the new classroom that can accommodate up to 34 pupils and is shared with their local sure start centre.
Lessons held in the new classroom will range from everyday classes to eco-lessons to help children learn more about the outdoors.
Jennifer Bestwick, School Business Manager said: “It’s a great idea and it gets the children out of the classroom and outside on a regular basis, which is really nice for the children.
“Now this project has been completed we’re in the process of planning to build a sensory garden.”
