A well travelled former
Ripley resident is preparing to take on the 2014 Ironman UK competition in Bolton in aid of Rotary Amber Valley.

Conrad Mulhearn, who currently lives in Angola, West Africa where he works as a medic for an offshore oil company is set to take on his third Ironman event since his first in Lanzarote in 2012.

The painstakingly difficult event is a 2.4mile open water swim, followed by a 112 mile cycle, finishing off with a 26.2 mile Marathon all to be completed inside a cut-off time of 17 Hours.

He decided to raise funds for the Rotary as his family are heavily involved in local sports with father-in-lawBill McAnulty once involved with Junior Rams, while his brothers-in-law coach Codnor Boys FC and Ripley & Duffield Tennis Club.

Rotary Amber Valley Press Officer John Hall said: “Rotary in Amber Valley is delighted and privileged that Conrad has chosen them to be a recipient of funds raised to benefit local voluntary youth sport.”
