Collision on the A38
Commuters faced up to three hour long tailbacks on Tuesday night after the A38 northbound carriageway was closed following a collision.
A Volkswagen panel van and a Porsche Carrera collided just before 4pm on the A38 close to junction 28 of the M1.
The van was trapped up against the central reservation and the driver had to be cut out of the vehicle by the fire service, although he was not seriously hurt. The Porsche driver , 24, from Wirksworth, suffered injuries to his back and was air lifted to Queen’s Medical Centre. The injuries were not life threatening.
The A38 was reopened just before 6pm, but the backlog of traffic - which stretched into Alfreton town centre, took a further hour to clear, drivers reported.
