College plans unveiled

Multi-million pound plans to transform the Derby College campus in Heanor could see the site reopened by 2014.

The Grade II listed former home of Heanor Grammar School has stood largely empty for the past two years with lessons transferred to the college’s other campuses.

In October bosses announced plans to turn the site into a 300-capacity ‘studio college’ with more of a focus on vocational learning and work experience.

This week further proposals to knock down part of the old science block and replace it with an all-weather sports pitch were being unveiled to the public - along with plans for an on-site internet cafe.
